Donation Guidelines
Thank you for considering donating books to the Huntington Public Library! Your generosity helps support our community and expand our collection. Once donated, the library reserves the right to utilize the materials without condition. To ensure donation-process efficacy, please review the following criteria:
Acceptable Donations
- Books & Magazines: Current, relevant, and in good condition.
- Audiobooks: In good condition and compatible with popular playback devices.
- DVDs and Blu-rays: Popular and current releases in good condition.
Unacceptable Donations
- Damaged, soiled, and missing parts: Books, audiobooks, Magazines, DVDs, and Blu-rays with significant damage, stains, or missing parts will not be accepted.
- Outdated materials: Materials with significantly outdated information.
- Encyclopedias and textbooks: We cannot accept these items due to limited shelf space.
- Newspapers: We appreciate your interest in recycling, but we cannot accept these items.
- Non-library material: Doll houses, typewriters, computers, etc.
Donation Process
- Bring donations to the library: Please bring your donations to the circulation desk during library hours. Donations limited to two mid-sized boxes of similar size to a banker box once a month.
- Donation screening: Donations are reviewed with donation criteria and collection development policy.
- Disposition of donations: Accepted items may be added to the library collection, sold at a book sale to benefit the library, or donated to other organizations.
Donor Responsibilities
- Ownership transfer: By donating items, you relinquish ownership and agree that the library has the sole discretion to determine the disposition of the donated materials.
- No appraisals: The library cannot provide appraisals for donated items.
