Library of Things

A Library of Things is a community resource where you can borrow a wide range of items, like how you would borrow books from a traditional library. These items can include Tools and Electronics, Musical Instruments, Sports and Fitness Equipment, Kitchen Appliances, Games and Toys and Outdoor Equipment.

The idea is to promote sustainability and community sharing by allowing people to borrow items they might only need occasionally. This helps reduce waste, save money, and encourage trying new activities without a big investment.

Borrowing and Returning

The Huntington Public Library has a variety of "Things" available for patrons to borrow. 

Things are intended for check out and take-home use. Those who check out Things must abide by all requirements of the Huntington Public Library's Lending Policy including replacement fees for lost or damaged materials.

Only patrons, 18 years of age or older, whose accounts are current and in good standing may check out a Thing (limit of one). For children under the age of 18, Things must be checked out to a parent/legal guardian’s account. Things will be lent for two weeks with no renewals. Library staff will ensure that all parts and accessories are lent with and returned with Things. 

Things will not be shared via delivery with other libraries. All Things are borrowed from and returned directly to the Huntington Public Library.

Not all Things are suitable or safe for all patrons. Responsibility for a child's use of a Thing rests with the parent or guardian. Patrons borrowing Things will be required to sign a Liability Waiver and Informed Consent Form for borrowed equipment.
